JAKE WIGHTMAN (Athletics, 29)
It was the father-and-son story that captivated the country. Not only did Wightman win a historic gold medal in the 1500m at last summer's World Championships, his father Geoff happened to be the in-house commentator who called it for the crowd.
'It was a really special thing to happen and a nice moment for him to be involved in,' reflects Wightman, whose dad is also his coach.
The middle-distance runner will not defend his world title in Budapest next month after an injury-hit year. But he is now preparing for Paris, where he wants to make up for his disappointing 10th place in Tokyo.
'I've done the next best thing by winning the worlds, but Olympic gold is what I've always wanted,' he admits.
'If I have to get all of my bad luck out of the way this year and have these setbacks, as long as I have a smoother ride next year, then that is OK.'
