A Boss and Russell Athletic collaboration is on its way...
While German uber-brand Boss has ongoing collaborations with Liam Payne, who works with younger label Hugo each season, and Anthony Joshua, who regularly helps create both tailoring and athleticwear capsule collections, it's rare for it to approach another brand to do a clothing collaboration.
Sure, there was a partnership with porcelain masters Meissen last year and Boss has a deal with Porsche, but for the brand that was formed in 1926 to venture into the waters of another clothing label is a big deal.
Russell Athletic, on the other hand, is continuously collaborating with other brands, such as Ronnie Fieg's Kith and Chinatown Market. Now the Kentucky-based giant has worked with the design team at Boss, which is led by chief brand officer Ingo Wilts. Together they have created a collection that fuses tailoring with sportswear, something a lot of us are personally doing now our work lives are split between the home and the office.
Launching in March 2021, the co-branded collection of 30 pieces for men and women blends the German brand’s experience in formalwear, which is second to none, with the sportswear expertise of Athletic, which is owned by Fruit Of The Loom and is one of the biggest manufacturers of athletic apparel and uniforms in the US.
While there are currently no images of the collection, we do know that there will be dual-branded hoodies, cardigans and sweatpants in shades of burgundy and grey, as well as a rose-hued single-breasted suit, shirting and headwear, by way of caps and beanies. There will also be at least two pairs of trainers for the sneakerheads out there.
Of the collaboration, Wilts said: “Casualisation is an important element in our Boss collections, so it’s the perfect time to partner with a pioneer in this field. Russell Athletic invented the sweatshirt almost 100 years ago and it has been a great experience to work with a brand that has such a heritage and expertise in sportswear. When I first traveled to the US, a Russell Athletic sweatshirt was among my first purchases. I have always wanted to do something with the brand.”
